Bluewater Mayor, Paul Klopp, says the time has come to look at other options for dealing with waste because the Stanley landfill is starting to fill up.
Klopp says they asked staff back in June to look at possibilities and come back with a recommendation, which was presented to council this week and the result is they’re going to be hauling their waste to Twin Creeks in Watford.
“We’re going to be hauling our waste to Twin Creeks, using our Bluewater Recycling Association collection organization and then going forward, those costs, which are directly related to transportation, will be passed through on your taxes.”
Klopp adds, this is just a start and they will continue to look at other options.
“This is just a start, we’re obviously going to look at other alternatives to make it more efficient. And then of course, if there’s any way we can reduce the cost of actually trucking, the staff will continue to look at that.”
Klopp also points out that reducing and re-using is one of the best ways to minimize waste and save money because disposing of waste does cost money.
