Sports Notes: DJ Kennington earns first win of season

DJ Kennington captured his first win of the season in the first of two races at the NASCAR Pinty’s Series stop in Saskatoon Wednesday. The No. 17 Castrol Edge Dodge jumped from the No. 9 starting position to the front of the field and prevailed in a green, white, checkered flags dash to the finish after a late restart for his 24th career victory. “We’ve knocked on the door a couple (of) times this year with podium finishes but it’s nice to get that first win,” the St. Thomas native said. “I had a couple of really good battles and on that last restart with (Andrew Ranger) we raced each other hard but fair.” Kennington finished sixth in the second race after NASCAR officials issued him a drive through pit lane penalty for jumping the initial start. He heads to the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres in Quebec Aug. 7 unofficially second in series standings, just a single point from first. Read More
