One person has died and four others, including three children, were seriously injured in a crash north of Plattsville on Monday afternoon.
Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) paramedics and the Plattsville Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hofstetter Road at around 1:18 p.m.
Police determined that an SUV travelling north and a motor vehicle driving south when the vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the motor vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries during the crash and was taken to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Their identity is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the SUV and two children were taken to hospital by ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. A third child in the SUV was air lifted to hospital by Ornge, also to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team continues to investigate the crash. As a result, Hofstetter Road is closed between Oxford Waterloo Road and Township Road 14. The area is expected to remain closed most of Monday evening.
Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said officers believe there may have been another vehicle in the area around the time of the crash and they are encouraged to call police.
