Goderich still working on bylaw for short term rentals

The Town of Goderich is still mulling over what to do about short term rentals.

Goderich Mayor John Grace says council is still considering how a bylaw will address concerns regarding short term rentals in the town.

“It’s all about creating a balance when it comes to short term rentals and that doesn’t mean we’re going to be anything like Grand Bend or Bayfield or Port Elgin, but balanced and determined by Goderich, for Goderich. So it’s got to be a made-in-Goderich program,” said Grace.

According to Grace there are already rules in place to deal with some of the issues. What council is considering is a a bylaw that will clearly lay out what is allowed and what is not.

“It will be reviewed again in October, as we look at implementing a bylaw in order to manage short term rentals. And there will be another public meeting and an opportunity to engage council at that time.”

Earlier this month Lambton Shores passed a Short-Term Rental Licensing By-Law, which affects Grand Bend.

Under those rules, there will be an annual license fee of $500, occupancy limits of 10 people per rental and the need for an “on-call” person at all times.
