Incumbent Conservative candidate, Lisa Thompson, has been re-elected as MPP for the riding of Huron-Bruce, receiving over 52% of the vote, with over 24,000 votes.
MPP Thompson says it’s humbling to continue to receive the support of Huron-Bruce’s constituents.
“The adrenaline is percolating as much [last night] as it was in 2011. There is so much that we can do if we work together in Huron-Bruce. Because, quite frankly, the opportunities are here, the desire is here, and the will to work together.”
This is Thompson’s fourth term as MPP for Huron-Bruce, after first being elected in 2011, and re-elected in 2014, and 2018.
Reflecting on her many campaigns, Thompson says the key is garnering as much face-time with constituents as possible.
“You can never take away the importance and the value of speaking to people door-to-door. That’s when you really know if you’re hitting the mark, and what you do has resonated and mattered.”
Thompson says she’s eager to get back to work to serve her constituents, and adds she’s prioritizing connecting the 14 municipalities that make up her riding.
“The expansion of natural gas and broadband are very, very important. We made a commitment to connect every community via fibre or low orbiting satellite by 2025, and we’re going to see that through.”
In terms of rebuilding the economy, both provincially and locally, Thompson says the Conservative government is ready.
“There are a number of businesses that are at the gate, ready to go, in terms of responding to the programs that our government will be introducing to attract value added manufacturing and food processing, right here at home in Huron-Bruce.”
