Perth East Mayor Rhonda Ehgoetz says the 2022 budget has been settled.
Council met Thursday to put together the final numbers after examining the capital budget for the year, and they also figured out what the tax levy increase will be.
“So we have an increase of 3.522 percent. There’s always roads and bridges to fix or maintain. We’re doing some stuff in our parks, we’ve put some new playground equipment in our parks.”
Ehgoetz adds there’s one major project of note to be excited about. That would be the industrial park being built on the edge of Milverton, a project that got started last year.
“We have a private company that’s doing it, which is a bit different in a municipality, so we’re really excited about that. We’re building a lot of homes, the subdivisions are starting to take shape and get homes in them. We also have some water stuff to take care of in Shakespeare this year, and there’s just lots of building going on. Our planning department are run off their feet, they just can’t keep up. There’s lots of businesses that want to come to Perth East, and we’re happy to have them.”
With housing such a major issue seemingly all over the country, Ehgoetz notes that they’re trying to advertise those new homes to attract more people to the municipality.
“What we try to promote is that we have multi-res homes, when they start building the subdivisions, so not only single family homes, but duplexes, triplexes. We have some apartment buildings going up in Milverton, and a couple condos.”
