Owen Sound celebrates growth

Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy says the city is trending in the right direction, after ten years of population decline.  Statistics Canada’s 2021 Census of Population data showed the City of Owen Sound had a population increase of 1.3% since 2016 to 21,612 residents.

That compares to the 2016 Census, which showed a slight decrease in the Owen Sound population from 2011. Mayor Boddy says a City that Grows is a strategic priority of Council. And he thinks their dedicated focus on making the City a more sustainable, safe, prosperous, collaborative, vibrant and resilient City is seeing results.

“Following ten years of decline, the data shows we have turned the corner with an increase in the past five years. With 400 new housing units coming onto the market in the next few months, attraction of new industry and the significant investment made by developers, the City is trending in the right direction. We can build on this foundation,” said Boddy.
