LOIS ANNE CRAIG
February 3, 1929 – December 31, 2021
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3: 16-17
Lois was born in Ripley on February 3, 1929, to Donalda (MacLeod) and Ellis Gossel. She attended elementary and high school in Ripley then Normal School in Stratford. Lois taught Grade 1 in Paisley and then she and her beloved Donald (predeceased 2016) bought 100 acres on the 9th concession of Kincardine Township. Together they built a home and family and shared in all the daily tasks that a successful dairy operation entailed. Lois, with her ever cheerful attitude, was happy driving the tractor, milking cows, gardening or shovelling grain and even made picking rocks an enjoyable experience. At the end of a busy day Lois and Don would relax on the farm, have a tune or two or visit with their wonderful neighbours. After 27 years Lois and Don retired and moved to Kincardine. Don was able to make daily trips to the farm and Lois continued to care for her children, family and friends. The results of her baking, cooking, quilting, note-writing, knitting, gardening and generous spirit were enjoyed by all she loved so dearly. Her mission and calling, was to bring light and sunshine to all around her and she had a listening ear or caring hand for those in need–always thinking of others.
Lois spent her final days at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton surrounded by family who loved her and the staff and volunteers who attended to her with such care and compassion. On Friday, December 31, 2021, she was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father. Blessed to have her as their mother are Katherine and John Gowing, Donna and Geoff Gander, Kenneth and Nancy Craig and Anne and George McBride. Her 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren will forever have her in their hearts as they recall many family adventures and shenanigans over the years. Her sister-in-law, Isabel Craig and her cousins, nieces and nephews were very special to her and greatly loved.
Visitation took place at Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine on Sunday, January 2nd from 2 pm to 5 pm.
A private family celebration of Lois’ life was held at Chalmers Community Church on Monday, January 3, 2022, with Pastor Bruce Jones officiating. The service was recorded and a link is provided on Lois’ webpage. Lois and Don attended Chalmers for over 70 years and this church, and their faith family, were the cornerstone of their lives-serving and loving God and serving and loving others.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
