Obituary – Eleanor Convay

ELEANOR CONVAY

Mary Eleanor Convay (née Farrell) passed away, with her family at her side, at the Southampton Care Centre on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at age 85.
Beloved wife of Jim Convay of Kincardine.
Loving mother of Rose Marie (Jim) Young, Susan (Paul) Campbell, Jamie (Laurie) Convay, Doug (Heather) Convay and David Convay.
Sadly missed by her grandchildren: Amy (Andrew) Hallman, Corey Young, Dale Campbell (Kristen Underhill), Adam Campbell, Olivia Convay, Alex Convay, Julia Convay (Jesse Hassard) and Jason Convay and her great-grandchildren: Mya and Emma Hallman and Campbell and Colton Hassard.
Fondly remembered by her brothers John (Juanita) Farrell and Jim (Nancy) Farrell, brothers-in-law Nute Catto and Tom (Sharon) Convay and sister-in-law Betty Obokata.
Predeceased by her parents Fraser and Mary (née Fisher) Farrell, infant son Donald Convay and sister-in-law Marg Catto.
Eleanor was born in Kincardine and spent her early years on the family farm on the Fourth of Bruce. After Teachers’ College in Stratford, Eleanor taught a couple years before she settled down on the farm with Jim and started a family. Days were spent choring, cooking, volunteering and spending time with family and friends.
Eleanor was an amazing cook and enjoyed company coming over. There always seemed to be an extra plate at the dinner table, under the tree or in the field, wherever supper was being served during those busy days working on the farm. She was always planning the next meal and get together and we all looked forward to our epic Convay Apple Pie Day every year.
Where there was music, you could always find Eleanor at the piano. For years she played with the Chalmers Church Country Gospel Band. In her later years, she was an avid Bridge player and looked forward to playing every day.
Eleanor was a member of Chalmers Church for many, many years. Her worn Bible and generosity towards others was a testimony of her strong faith.
We all loved Grandma for her positive attitude, fun loving happy spirit and kindness towards everyone and will miss her warm smile, common sense advice, visits and the love she gave all of us.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life was held at the Underwood Community Centre at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, with Pastors Bruce Jones and Bonnie Mair officiating.
Interment Tiverton Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Chalmers Community Church or the Kincardine Food Bank appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
