Obituary – Earle Kennedy

Earle Kennedy
April 29, 1925 – Jan. 22, 2023

After a long and fruitful life, Earle passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023.
Born in Unity, Saskatchewan, Earle spent his early years in western Canada. He was the second youngest of five siblings and attended the University of Saskatchewan on scholarship, obtaining his BA in mathematics and B.Ed. A mathematician and teacher at heart, his first career was teaching high school math in Nelson, BC where he met his wife Catherine Argyle, a concert pianist, violinist and music teacher. Earle and Catherine moved “east”, as many western Canadians did after the war and settled first in London and eventually in Kincardine. After moving to Ontario, Earle switched careers and became a CPA which he continued well into his seventies.
Earle’s children, his clients, the church and charity were all very important to him as well as lifelong learning and teaching. Even in retirement, he opened a Kumon centre in Kincardine, again combining his love of math and education. When Earle discovered the Buteyko method of breathing that helped alleviate asthma, he introduced that, as well, to the Kincardine area. Earle was always upbeat, both generous and frugal to a fault and well-liked by everyone, his favourite phrase being “Keep smiling!”
Earle was the family patriarch, the last surviving sibling and the last surviving member of the swing band at the University of Saskatchewan.
Predeceased by his talented wife Catherine.
Earle is survived by his daughters: Catherine Kennedy, who provided many years of caregiving in Earle’s later years, and Melissa Kennedy; his grandsons Jonathan Wingrove (Maya Yonehara), Michael Wingrove (Leo Liao); and his great-granddaughter Olivia Yonehara; plus nieces and nephews across Canada.
A funeral service was held at the Anglican Church of the Messiah in Kincardine on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kincardine Food Bank or to a charity of your choice and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home.
Portrait and memorial available online at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
