Is this the year the Jays make the playoffs?

By Doug Kennedy

On paper, the Toronto Blue Jays have a good chance to get into the playoffs this year, as the MLB has jumped from five playoff teams to six.

The top two division winners get a bye, while the other four playoff teams play a best-of-three to see who moves on. This will create a lot of excitement to start playoffs.

The Blue Jays have one of the best starting rotations in baseball. With the recent signing of Yusei Kikuchi, Hyun-Jin Rye, Kevin Gausman, Alex Manoah and Jose Berrios, the Blue Jays are in great shape with their starter.

They need to sign a couple of infielders and a couple more relievers and they will be fun to watch every night. Staying healthy is always the key to getting to playoffs.

There are still a lot of really good free agents that have not signed yet.

Lots of changes to baseball as there is a DH in both leagues.

Limiting shifts will be a new rule in 2023. Bigger bases will be added in 2023 also. They think this will help reduce injuries.

The Ripley Wolves lost 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in Clinton and did not recover, as Clinton beat the Wolves 5-1 Saturday night in Ripley, to eliminate the Wolves from playoffs.

It has been a great season for the Wolves, but I am sure they are disappointed as they landed in first place.

Friday night in Clinton, Nick Seller scored an unassisted goal and Alex Kuntz scored with Keaton Willis and Dan Nicolof getting assists.

On Saturday night in Ripley, the Wolves lost 5-1. Garrett Meurs scored the only goal with Brett Catto assisting.

Jason Hamilton was in net for both losses.

The Kincardine Bulldogs won game one of their playoff series against Wingham 2-1 in overtime last Friday night. Bryce McFadden scored the overtime winner on the power play.

Gavin Gibbons scored the other goal for the Bulldogs, with assists going to Gavin Downs and Nolan Koetsier.

Sunday night in Wingham, they lost 2-1. Jeffrey Fritzley scored the only goal from Carter Servais and Nolan Koetsier.

Joshua Jacklin was in net for both games for the Bulldogs.

They play game five at home Friday night at 8.30.

I am not very good at telling jokes, but I heard this morning that Tom Brady is coming back to play another season. He is worried about rising gas prices. I know.
