UPDATE: Parts of southwestern Ontario under thunderstorm warning

Portions of southwestern Ontario are experiencing thunder and lightning Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada initially issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Shortly before 7 p.m., the storm was located five kilometres south of Comber, moving east at 40 kilometres-per-hour.

Locations impacted near Windsor and CK include Tilbury, Comber, Port Alma, Goldsmith, Windfall, Quinn, Renwick, Coatsworth, Valetta, Stevenson, Fletcher and Glenwood.

Shortly after 8 p.m., parts of London and Middlesex County were included in the warning.

This severe thunderstorm is located about five kilometres southeast of London and is moving east at 35 km/h. The weather agency said A tornado is also possible with this system. Locations impacted with this storm include Dorchester and Nilestown. Environment Canada ended the warning for London-Middlesex just before 8:30 p.m.

Also around 8 p.m., part of Oxford County was placed under a tornado warning. The warning was lifted for the area about 30 minutes later.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees, and overturn large vehicles,” read the alert from Environment Canada. “Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following,  large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.”

A funnel cloud advisory has also been issued for the region, as conditions are capable of producing funnel clouds.
