Grey Bruce OPP warn stunt drivers are risking lives

Grey Bruce OPP are warning motorists about the dangers of stunt driving, after two motorists were charged with excessive speeding Tuesday.

Detachment Commander Inspector Paul Richardson says stunt driving continues to occur far too often.

“For the past several years, we have continued to work with our community safety partners to address road safety throughout Grey Bruce. Stunt Driving continues to be a re occurring issue, and I can’t stress enough the dangers it poses to not only the occupants of the involved motor vehicle, but to other road users as well. Our officers will continue their enforcement efforts, and motorists can expect that if they’re caught stunt driving, they will be charged and held accountable for their actions,” he said.

At 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling at over 140 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 26 in Meaford. A 60-year-old suspect from Owen Sound was charged with stunt driving.

Just after noon, police charged a 25-year-old suspect from Barrie after spotting a motorist doing over 135 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on Highway 10 in the Township of Southgate.

Both suspects face 30-day licence suspensions and 14-day motor vehicle impoundments. They also will have to appear in provincial court.
