Charges laid in Hyde Park area shooting

London police say they have identified a suspect in a shooting in the northwest end of the city last Friday.

Now, they just have to find him.

Police announced Wednesday that they have an arrest warrant for Zainaldeen Sakr, 18, of London on charges of aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound/endanger life or prevent arrest, two counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

The charges stem from an incident the night of Friday, February 17. According to police, around 8 p.m., two men were in a parking lot in the area of Hyde Park Road and Fanshawe Park Road when they were approached by another man who shot a handgun at them.

“Members of the London Police attended the area and located the two men in the parking lot,” police said in a statement released the morning after the shooting. “One of the men was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged. The other man was not injured.”

Police believe this was not a random incident.

Officers are looking for Sakr (pictured above). Anyone with information in relation to this incident or the accused’s whereabouts is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
