Newcomers being introduced to curling at special welcoming event

The Seaforth Curling Club is hosting a Learn to Curl event for Ukrainian newcomers who’ve moved to Canada and are based in the Huron County area.

Huron County Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes says people are welcome to attend if they’re from Ukraine of if they’re hosting some from Ukraine in their home.

But Nonkes says everyone is welcome if they’re new to Canada and they came from Ukraine.

“The Seaforth Curling Club is hosting a Learn to Curl event for Ukrainian newcomers who’ve moved to Canada and are based in Huron County and area. People are welcome to attend if they are from Ukraine or if they’re hosting someone from Ukraine in their home,” Nonkes shared.

The Learn to Curl events is from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Friday, February 24 at the Seaforth Curling Club. Nonkes says the Ukrainians he’s spoken with are excited about trying curling for the first time so it should be a very interesting event.

“Every one is welcome, you know, if they’re new to Canada and they came from Ukraine, they’re welcome to meet other Ukrainians there. There will be translation available, so it’s really an opportunity to learn in their language and connect,” added Nonkes.
