Police identify body pulled from Lake Erie last fall

An Ohio-area man has been identified as the person whose body was pulled from the waters of Lake Erie in Long Point at the end of October.

Provincial police in Norfolk County, along with the Fairport Harbor Police Department in the United States, determined the remains to be that of a man who had previously been reported missing. His name was not released.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and no foul play is suspected. No further details will be released,” OPP said on Thursday.

The body was found in the water at the tip of Long Point on the south shore on the afternoon of October 25. A day later police issued a description of the person and the clothes they were wearing in an effort to help identify them. At the time, police noted that the individual could have been a Canadian or an American.

“The OPP would like to thank the Fairport Harbor Police Department, media outlets and everyone that provided assistance during this investigation,” said Norfolk OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Jodi Kays.
