UPDATE: Temporary closures at Emergency Departments in Wingham, Listowel, Huron-Perth
As a result of nursing staff shortages Emergency Departments in Listowel, Wingham and Huron-Perth will be facing temporary closures.
The Wingham and District Hospital emergency room will be closed July 9th from 5 a.m. to July 10th at 7 a.m. Then, it will be closed overnight, from 5 p.m. on July 10th until 7 a.m. on July 11th.
The Listowel Memorial Hospital emergency room will be closed from 5 p.m. on July 9th until 7 a.m. on July 10th.
Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) also announced scheduled closures later Thursday afternoon at several of its hospitals.
St. Marys Memorial Hospital’s emergency department will close on Friday, July 8 at 5 p.m. before resuming 24/7 operation on Saturday at 7 a.m.
Clinton Public Hospital’s emergency room will be closed on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Regular reduced hours of operation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. will resume on Wednesday, July 13.
Seaforth Community Hospital will also experience temporary closures and reduced hours next week. It will close on July 12 at 5 p.m. and reopen on July 13 between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those hours will remain in place until next Friday, July 15 when it will open at 7 a.m. for 24/7 operation.
Patients facing an emergency are still able to call 9-1-1, and responders will take you to the nearest emergency room.
The closest hospitals to Listowel are Palmerston, Mount Forest, Kitchener Waterloo, and Stratford.
The closest hospitals to Wingham are Clinton, Walkerton, Palmerston, Goderich, Seaforth.
Those in Huron-Perth will find the next closest hospitals in Goderich, Exeter Stratford, London or Ingersoll.
All hospitals in South Western Ontario are experiencing staffing shortages, including nurses, physicians, laboratory, allied health and support staff. Hospitals are all working closely together to minimize potential service impacts as a result of shortages.
