New pool for Mount Forest one step closer to reality

Wellington North CAO Mike Givens says there is still a lot of work to be done before a new pool facility comes to Mount Forest.

He says a few weeks back there was a public consultation on three different pool design concepts for people to offer comments on. There was also an online survey for people to give input on numerous design factors, Givens says.

“What type of options within the pool do they want, whether that’s bubblers, jets, or other enhancements, size, number of lines. So we are kind of in that fact finding mission in terms of what the pool is gonna look like.”

Givens says from this point, they will look at finalizing a design, and then go forward with consultation on cost and fundraising for the eventual construction.

“So from here we will finalize a design, and then be in a better position to look for either going forward with the actual construction or looking for funding opportunities whether it’s grants, donations, that sort of thing. We do have a really active aquatic committee that’s already doing some fundraising work.”

The municipality is working with an architect to finalize a design, and there’s some consultation with neighbouring towns on use of the new facility, and following that there’s hope that grant seeking and fundraising can get off the ground by next year. In terms of location, Givens says that’s already been sorted out.

“The township owns some land kind of just beside where the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex is, just east of where the existing building and parking lot is. So that’s the intent, is to put the pool in there. It’s a great location, and really ties into making that kind of the main recreation hub.”
