Omicron confirmed in Grey Bruce

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) has confirmed that a local case of COVID-19 contains the Omicron variant.

The variant was identified through diagnostic testing, which takes 10-14 days to determine.

This is the first confirmation of Omicron in the region.

“The Omicron variant is considered a variant of concern as it is more transmissible,” the GBHU said in a news release.

“Washing hands frequently, watching distance (ideally 6ft), and correctly wearing a face covering protects against all forms of the COVID-19 virus. Vaccine is the best long-term defense,” the health unit advised.

The GBHU is currently tracking 150 cases of COVID-19, with 31 of those reported in the last day.
