London-Middlesex reports 23 new COVID-19 cases Sunday

There was a slight rise in the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the London region Sunday.

On Saturday, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) confirmed a total of 23 new COVID-19 cases, a slight increase from the 17 recorded cases Saturday.

The total case count in London sits at 13,805.  The number of known active cases in the area has jumped to 196, up six from the previous day. A total of 13,372 cases have been resolved.

On Friday, the London Health Sciences Centre admitted one additional COVID-19 patient into its care for a total of eight in-patients.

Five or fewer in-patients are in critical care, and zero pediatric patients are in the Children’s Hospital. Less than five staff members are in self-isolation after testing positive for the virus.

According to Health Minister Christine Elliott, as of Sunday more than 85 per cent of Ontarians 12 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 715 new cases Sunday.

Today’s total of new COVID-19 cases brings the total number of confirmed cases in Ontario to 579,584 including deaths and recoveries.
