Police use Taser on knife-wielding suspect

A 28-year-old from North Middlesex is facing nearly a dozen charges after allegedly approaching officers with a knife during an incident in Grand Bend.

Members of Lambton OPP were called about an altercation at a residence on Ontario Street North on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Police said the accused was wielding a knife when he approached officers. While police de-escalated the situation, other officers from Lambton and Huron counties blocked off a portion of the roadway and began evacuating neighbouring households.

OPP said a Taser was used during the arrest.

The accused was charged with the following:

– Assault a peace officer

– Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

– Uttering threats to cause death

– Failure to comply with probation (three counts)

– Failure to comply with an undertaking (three counts)

– Possession of a prohibited device

– Possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order

Lambton OPP said the accused was held in custody following a bail hearing on Friday, May 12.
