Approval granted to relocate Sebringville LTC to Stratford

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance’s CEO says they now have the approval needed to proceed with the relation of a long term care home from the Sebringville area to Stratford.

Stratford council has approved their proposal for a land lease agreement that would allow Revera to rebuild and expand their home west of Sebringville and move it to the property in Stratford where the original hospital is located.

“They’ve been approved to rebuild and expand that and they’re interested in relocating to Stratford and so we’ve been in discussions with them around the property where the original hospital is located. So we’re very excited about that,” says Andrew Williams, CEO of Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance. “We’re obviously still working on details.”

Williams says there is a need for more long term care home beds in the area and being able to redevelop an existing home and expand it is a win for everyone.

He notes there has been some resistance to the plan from the heritage community regarding the removal of Avon Crest.

“We’d taken the position up to and including two weeks ago when the issue was finally resolved that heritage is remarkably important in our community and the challenge with the building we’re facing is that it’s too large, it’s too expensive and in no way practical to repurpose from a heritage point of view,” says Williams.

They expect to start the demolition of the original hospital later this spring.
