A young teenager has to go to court after he allegedly assaulted and threatened harm towards several St. Thomas officers.
On Thursday, two teens were reported missing to the St. Thomas Police Service. Police officials say a number of resources were then used to investigate their disappearance. During the probe, police determined the pair were in crisis, and there were grounds to apprehend them under the Mental Health Act.
At around 10:40 p.m., an officer located the teens in the downtown core, which is when the situation escalated, according to police.
“When attempting to engage the two young persons to offer support and reconnect the teenagers with their families, one of the individuals struck an officer in the face causing serious but non-life threatening injuries,” read a statement from police.
The officer went to the hospital to be treated for their injuries and was later released, police say. The teen accused of assaulting the officer was eventually taken into custody where they reportedly continued to be hostile towards police.
While in custody, police claim the teen threatened to kill the officers involved in their arrest, and spat in another police officer’s face.
The 13-year-old St. Thomas teen has since been charged with assault causing bodily harm, resisting arrest, assault and uttering death threats. They were later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
