Council moving forward with HVAC replacement at local rec complex

Perth East has selected a tender for the replacement of some of the HVAC units at the Perth East Rec Complex in Milverton.

Director of Recreation Becky Westman says council selected the tender last week after 11 submissions were made.

“The lowest bidder and the bidder we recommended to council was Eco HVAC Solutions out of Brampton, and their submission was $85,623,” Westman shared.

Westman notes the project is being paid for out of reserves.

“The project was approved in the 2023 capital budget. There are three units being replaced, we already replaced some of the other ones earlier. So these are the last of the original ones to be replaced from 2003,” added Westman.

Given that it will take roughly 8-10 weeks for the HVAC units to arrive, Westman says they want to align the installation with another approved project.

“One of the things that we’re trying to do is coordinate both projects, the replacement of the roofing and the HVAC unit replacements at the same time, so that we’re able to take off the units, put the new roof on, and put the new HVAC units back up,” said Westman.

The roofing replacement needs to be done in hot weather due to the adhesive used, so the two projects, as Westman says, should have a similar timeline that they’re able to accommodate at the same time.
