Huron-Perth high schools invite homeschool students to enrol

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board welcomes current grade eight homeschool students to enrol at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School or St. Michael Catholic Secondary School.

Superintendent of Education Karen Tigani said they recognize that the normal way for them to reach out to students regarding enrolment might not reach some students who aren’t currently enrolled in one of their schools.

“We just want to get the word out that this is the time of year where students are picking secondary school courses. So whether they’re looking to enrol in grade nine or perhaps another grade in secondary, this is an optimal time to connect with our guidance departments at the secondary schools,” Tigani said.

Tigani added, the Catholic board usually has one or two students at each school every year who have been homeschooled through the elementary level and decide to come to school at the secondary level.

“If a person has not been in our schools to date, but is interested and has questions, it would be a great idea to reach out to the guidance department at St. Anne’s or St. Michael and make an appointment to come in and speak with people about the course options that are available,” Tigani urged.

Tigani also said the school board recognizes that throughout the pandemic, many people across Huron-Perth and the province chose to homeschool their children for a number of reasons. Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board realized that could add to the number of students who have been homeschooled and are now looking at coming back to a traditional classroom.
