Lambeth plaza break-in ends with man charged

More than half a dozen charges have been laid against a London man after a break-in at a plaza in Lambeth.

A London police officer was on patrol when they noticed a vehicle pull out of a parking lot onto Main Street without its headlights turned on around 1:30 a.m. on Monday. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle it kept going.

The officer went back to the parking lot where the vehicle was initially spotted and found windows to two businesses had been damaged. Through surveillance footage from the area, police were able to determine a man had exited the suspect vehicle, damaged two doors and windows in the plaza before going inside one of the businesses.

Items were reported stolen from the business, police said.

Roughly an hour later, the suspect vehicle was found on Laurel Court and a man was arrested.

The vehicle and licence plates were previously reported stolen, police said.

A 24-year-old London man has been charged with seven offences including two counts of breaking and entering, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, theft of a vehicle, mischief under $5,000, failure to stop for police, and failure to comply with release order.

He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Thursday.
