North Huron council will have a lot to talk about at its next regular meeting pertaining to Wingham Homecoming.
On February 14, Wingham Homecoming ’24 sent a message on Facebook saying that planning for the event would no longer take place.
Following that message, the township of North Huron clarified that no official decision has been made regarding the event, only that two council-appointed members of a committee set up to discuss the event had resigned.
“Those individuals noted their concern with the committee being required to abide by the provincial and municipal requirements of committees of council,” said North Huron Reeve Paul Heffer, who says at this time, no determination has been made on the future of the event. But he still feels that there’s value to the community in holding one.
“The organizers that expressed these concerns were made aware of the requirements from the beginning of the process,” he said.
A source tells CKNXNewsToday.ca that as many as seven members of the committee have resigned, or are in the process of resigning from the Homecoming Committee.
Heffer says council will discuss the future of Wingham Homecoming ’24 at a future meeting, noting he expects to easily fill the seats of those that have resigned from the committee of council.
