Transit company adds new local bus stops

Huron Shores Area Transit has implemented three new bus stops this month.

Transit Coordinator Susan Mills says they currently cover Lambton Shores, South Huron, Bluewater, North Middlesex, and Kettle and Stoney Point. They also have long distance routes to Sarnia, London, Goderich, and Strathroy. Mills says 2022 was really their first year of full operation and that gave them the opportunity to look at how the bus stops were being used and identify the busier routes.

“We also had feedback from passengers, so it kind of highlighted some areas for us that we thought we could improve. And as a result of that we brought in three new stops that were implemented as of January 2023,” Mills said.

One example of the changes made, as Mills explains, was the three bus stops in Exeter.

“For instance, when we took a look at the three bus stops in Exeter, the one at Main Street South and Victoria really wasn’t being used, compared to the other two and there’s no bus stop at the north end of the town, which is probably the busiest part of Exeter,” Mills stated.

Mills says part of the reason for that was that intersection was under construction at the time, but that’s all completed now and they were able to locate a bus stop in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Mills says a second new bus stop is located in Centralia at 148 Melbourne Street, in front of the children’s playground. A third new bus stop is on the Sarnia to Grand Bend route, in the large entranceway to the First Nation property located at 9356 Army Camp Road, Ipperwash.
