Hanover & West Grey proceeding with amalgamation of minor hockey programs

What’s in a name?

The amalgamation of two minor hockey programs in Grey County is proceeding, and the executive of Hanover and West Grey’s Minor Hockey associations are asking membership to submit name possibilities for the new program.

West Grey Minor Hockey President Jeremy White says the executive is taking two weeks to receive names, then the list will be narrowed down to five that current membership will vote on.

White did mention that an early favourite seems to have emerged, at least among members of West Grey Minor Hockey.

“West Grey has had a lot of people actually put in for West Grey” says White, adding “I think a lot of people feel that Hanover is in the West Grey portion of Grey County. A lot of people seem to be leaning that way but we’ll let the membership pick.”

The process is shutting out past members of the programs due to concerns about a high volume of names being submitted, but White did mention that current paying members of Hanover and West Grey Minor Hockey can submit multiple names as part of the process, so if you know someone that is a paying member, past members can give their ideas to them for submission to the executive.

Following this contest, a similar process will follow to select the centre’s new nickname (ex. Falcons, Warriors).

Paying members of West Grey and Hanover Minor Hockey can submit their suggestions to amalgamation@hanoverminorhockey.ca or secretary@westgreyminorhockey.com.

Name proposals will be accepted until midnight on November 9th.
