Youth charged with assaulting St. Thomas police officer

A 17-year-old is among three teens charged after a disturbance that resulted in a vehicle being damaged and a St. Thomas police officer assaulted.

Police said they received a report early Saturday morning after a witness allegedly saw the teenagers break a headlight on a parked car.

Two 16-year-olds were arrested for mischief to property, while the third was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Police said an officer was trying to take the two suspects into custody when the officer was punched in the back.

The youths were taken to the Colin McGregor building for processing and were later released into the custody of an adult on appearance notices for youth court.
