Land acquisition process underway for new West Grey roundabout

Grey County continues negotiations with landowners for land to build a roundabout at the intersection of Grey Roads 3 and 4 in West Grey.

The project requires a small acquisition of land from three properties. To date, a report from the county said staff have been unsuccessful in negotiating a price to purchase the necessary land from the property owners

If an agreement cannot be reached, staff has been directed to move forward with expropriation proceedings.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction during the summer of 2023.

A report to council says many vehicles turn at the intersection daily due to high traffic volumes on these two important routes. It said although the intersection meets all current safety design standards, more accidents occur here compared to other intersections in the County.

Through a successful application to the Ontario government’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Rural and Northern Communities Funding Stream, Grey County is partnering with the Federal and Provincial governments to fund this project.

The funding breakdown has the Federal Government covering 50% of the cost, the Provincial Government kicks in 33.33%, and Grey County will pay for 16.67% of the project.
