Huron County moving on plan to create vehicle charging network

Huron County is going ahead on a plan to create and electric vehicle charging network with several other area counties.

Huron County Climate Change and Energy Specialist, Derry Wallis, says the Regional Electric Vehicle Network Strategy includes the counties of Huron, Perth, Grey, Wellington and Dufferin.

The initiative also includes some other communities.

“With the City of Guelph, the town of St. Marys and the City of Stratford, we wanted to look into the possibility of creating that regional charging network that will allow travel throughout the study area with electric vehicles,” said Wallis. “So the Dufferin area is a bit out of the GTA, so this would be mainly focus on from Dufferin all the way to Bruce County, I guess. But, ideally, it would allow travel from the 401 northwest, that direction.”

Wallis says they haven’t make any decisions on whether to go with level two or level three chargers, but there will likely be a mix of both.

There was, at one time, talk of a network connecting the current study area to the GTA and Wallis concedes they’re not quite there yet.
