Multiple businesses temporarily evacuated due to hydrogen peroxide leak

A hydrogen peroxide leak at an east London chemical distribution company forced the evacuation of neighbouring businesses on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called about a “hazmat incident” at Anchem at 120 Stronach Cres., west of Clarke Road after 8:30 a.m. The leak reportedly caused a fire on the roof of the chemical business.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze and the leak was stopped.

As a precaution, firefighters cleared all people from a 100 metre radius of the company and London police temporarily closed all roads in the area. They were reopened just before 9:15 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Anchem, which has been in business since 1993, distributes swimming pool, water treatment, industrial, and agricultural chemicals across Canada.
