Fire at northwest London parking garage deemed suspicious

Police believe a fire at an underground parking garage that filled the air in northwest London with thick smoke may have been deliberately set.

Fire crews were called to the parking structure at a highrise apartment building at 50 Capulet Lane near Beaverbrook Avenue just before 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Multiple people had called 911 to report heavy smoke that could be seen for several blocks.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported.

A damage estimate has not yet been released.

“The fire was deemed to be suspicious in nature and the investigation was assigned to members of the London Police Service Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of the London Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Marshal,” London police said.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
