Second suspect in shooting arrested

London police say a second suspect has been arrested and charged on connection with gunfire that was reported in east London last week.

London police were called by a citizen who heard what sounded like gunfire in the area of Edmonton Street and Hilton Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11. Officers flooded the neighbourhood and found evidence that a weapon had been fired.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, was arrested.

Police say a 20-gauge pump-action shotgun, a replica handgun, and various shotgun shells were seized by police.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The London teen has been charged with eight offences including possession of a firearm without a licence, careless use/handling/storage of a firearm, careless careless use/handling/storage of ammunition, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm.

On Tuesday, police announced a second arrest. A 21-year-old London man is charged with two counts each of possession of a firearm without a licence, careless storage of a firearm, and careless storage of ammunition. He is also charged with possession of a loaded regulated firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

The name of the accused will not be released, as doing so could potentially identify the youth facing charges, police said.
