Conservation areas opening for season

Nature enthusiasts will once again be able to get their fill of the outdoors at conservation areas in London, Woodstock, and St. Marys.

Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock conservation areas officially open for the season at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

“Conservation areas are a great option for all of your outdoor adventures,” the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, which oversees the three conservation areas, said in a statement. “We have the longest mountain biking loops in the region, amazing lakes for boating, great fishing opportunities, and awesome hiking trails all in a beautiful natural setting. Enjoy evening campfires, cooking outdoors, or simply relaxing in nature.”

Fanshawe Conservation Area alone has 511 campsites, a campground swimming pool and splash pad, canoe and kayak rentals, washrooms and laundry facilities, and 30 kilometres of hiking and biking trails.

More than 70 full time and seasonal staff maintain the lush green spaces. Visitors are reminded to deposit all garbage into the provided trash cans or take it home with them and to keep all pets on a leash. Off road vehicles, such as ATVs, are prohibited from conservation areas.

Anyone interested in booking a campsite or purchasing a seasons pass can do so through each conservation area’s website.
