The Township of Wellington North has appointed Matthew Aston and Darren Jones as joint Interim Chief Administrative Officers.
They begin their new duties June 1, 2022, after Chief Administrative Officer Michael Givens accepted the CAO position in the Township in Perth East.
A media release from the township said both Mr. Aston and Mr. Jones are long time employees of Wellington North serving as Director of Operations and Chief Building Official respectively.
Aston will be responsible for Operations, I.T. and Finance including transitioning a new Director of Finance when hired. Jones will be responsible for Administration, Economic Development, Fire Services, Human Resources and Planning Consultants.
“Recruiting a new Chief Administrative Officer is a lengthy process, and with 2022 being a Municipal Election year, we wanted to be pro-active and get these appointments in place before the Restricted Acts period (lame duck) in August, as we would be prohibited from hiring this position during that time,” stated Mayor Lennox.
Lennox added that council has confidence in the leadership, communication skills and teamwork that both people bring to the township.
The Chief Administrative Officer is the most senior member of staff in the Township of Wellington North, reporting directly to Council to work together to implement Council’s direction and initiatives and responsible for all organizational and operational services.
