Pair charged in crime spree

A man and a woman face a number of charges after a string of crimes were reported in and around the London area.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Middlesex County, officers were called at around 6:13 a.m. on April 19 about a gas theft at a business on Highbury Avenue in Middlesex Centre. Investigators later determined the licence plates did match the suspect vehicle.

Later that afternoon, at around 12:44 p.m., officers of the of the Oxford-Brant Street Crime Unit located the suspect vehicle at a home on Rivers Road in South West Oxford. Police learned the property had been broken into and an all-terrain vehicle was stolen however, it was recovered a short distance away.

Several hours later, the vehicle in question was located again, this time at shopping plaza on Wellington Road in London. Officers arrested the occupants without incident. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Ingersoll, while the plates were stolen off a vehicle in London.

During a search, police say they found stolen property along with a shotgun.

As a result, a 35-year-old man of no fixed address and a 22-year-old London woman face multiple charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime and breaking and entering.

Police say the man is also a suspect of a multi-jurisdictional crime spree involving property crime, break and enters and vehicle thefts.

Both were held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
