West Perth and Clearview Mayors make friendly wager over Hawks/Siskins series

The ante has been upped in terms of what’s on the line in the PJHL’s Northern Conference Championship.

West Perth Mayor Walter Mackenzie says he was approached by Clearview Mayor Doug Measures about making a bet on the Mitchell Hawks and Stayner Siskins series, and Mackenzie says he was fully on board with the two part bet.

“So if our Hawks lose, I will make a donation to Clearview Food Bank, and if their Siskins lose he will make a donation to our West Perth Food Bank.”

Mackenzie says the second part of the bet involves the municipal flags.

“Well I said ‘Let’s up it a little bit.’ So my idea was to exchange flags, and if they lose, they’ll fly our flag up in Stayner, and if we lose, we’ll fly their flag here in Mitchell. So we are going to exchange flags tonight.”

The two mayors will meet up tonight in Mitchell prior to game 1 of the series, which you can catch live on CKNX AM920 and CKNX.ca tonight at 7:30. We will carry the entire Hawks playoff run.

On top of the friendly wager, Mackenzie says it’s just been so great to see the community have something so positive and fun to rally around.

“It’s just great, the community is just outpouring with support, the arena was jammed to capacity the other night, and it will be tonight. It’s been two years since we’ve really been able to do anything, and I think people are ready to celebrate something, and certainly, if your local hockey team can win and put on a good show if nothing else, it’s just great.”

Mackenzie says he will be among the fans taking a fan bus down to Stayner for game 2 on Sunday.
