Hours reduction extended at local hospital emergency department

An hours reduction at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital emergency department is being extended.

In a release, the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance says they will be extending the reduced operating hours at St. Marys Memorial Hospital’s emergency department as the staffing shortage related to COVID-19 continues. The emergency department will be closing tonight at 6 p.m. From April 23rd to May 2nd, the St. Marys Memorial Hospital emergency department will be accepting patients from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and will be closed overnight until 7:00 a.m. This reduction in hours will be in effect until May 2nd at 7 a.m. This follows a recently announced COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital.

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 9-1-1. Paramedics will get you to the nearest Emergency Department for care.

The closest Emergency Departments to the St. Marys Memorial Hospital are:
-Stratford – HPHA – Stratford General Hospital

-Ingersoll – Alexandra Hospital

“With COVID-19 staff absences continuing to increase we are unfortunately left with no other option than to extend our reduced hours of operation,” says Andrew Williams, President and CEO. “Today across our four hospital sites 99 team members are unavailable to work. When we look at our St. Marys Memorial Hospital site specifically, 20% of that team has either tested positive or is self-isolating. With a high level of community transmission, we want to remind everyone of the importance of following public health measures such as staying home if you are feeling unwell, wearing a mask in indoor public spaces and getting vaccinated.”
