Freezing rain, ice pellets possible Wednesday morning

A combination of freezing rain and ice pellets could make for a slippery commute to work Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of southern Ontario, including London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, St. Thomas, Elgin County, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex.

The national weather agency is forecasting freezing rain and ice pellets to fall on those areas in the morning before changing over to rain in the afternoon. Areas to the west of London could see freezing rain overnight.

“At this time, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding the timing and amount of freezing rain,” Environment Canada said.

The freezing rain and ice pellets could cause untreated roads and sidewalks to become quite icy.

Drivers are advised to reduce their speed and leave extra space between their vehicle and others around it.

Any ice accumulation from the freezing rain should melt by Wednesday afternoon when the temperature is expected to rise to 8 C.
