UTRCA and London Hydro provide trees to residents

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is partnering with London Hydro to provide trees to residents as a way to improve the community.

This year, the Tree Power Program invites Londoners to participate in taking home and planting one of 50,000 native hardwood trees in their yards.

“We are continuing our legacy of planting trees in both rural and urban areas. We have planted more than 12 million trees all across the watershed since 1950,” said the UTRCA’s Forester John Enright.

The program, which launched 10 years ago, benefits both home owners and the natural environment. Trees help enhance yards and shade homes in the summer to reduce air conditioning costs, filter pollution and provide habitats for birds and other wildlife.

Londoners interested in participating in the program can go on to the UTRCA’s website and choose from one of seven different species of trees for $20-$25 while quantities last. Residents will also receive instructions on how to plant their tree.

Tree delivery and planting will begin in early April.
