Health Canada to approve Pfizer vaccine for young children

Health Canada is expected to announce the approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children between five-to-11-years-old on Friday.

According to multiple sources of the Toronto Star, a delivery of about three million doses of the vaccine is expected to arrive in Canada in the next several days, enough for every eligible child to receive the first dose. While an exact timeline is not yet certain, sources say the vaccines could be ready by as soon as the end of the month.

Ontario’s medical officer of health, Dr. Kieran Moore, spoke with a radio station in Ottawa on Wednesday and said the interval between the two doses for children will be eight weeks, the same for adults, instead of the U.S. recommendation of three weeks.

Canada will be one of the first few nations in the world to give the go-ahead for this edition of the Pfizer vaccine.
