SIU investigating after a man in Port Dover dies from gunshot wound

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an investigation by Toronto police in Norfolk County ended with shots fired and a man dead.

According to officials, members of the Toronto Police Service were at an address at around noon on Wednesday near the area of Highway 6 and Highway 24 in Port Dover to execute a firearms search warrant.

During the search, an officer discharged a firearm and one person was struck and taken to hospital.

The SIU has confirmed a 70-year-old man is dead as a result of the incident. A total of three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

No other details have been released.
