Airport discussions at Huron County council

A recent Huron County council discussion about the Goderich Airport centered around running a deficit.

The airports viability came into question after councillors received a consultant’s report.

Warden Glen McNeil points out the value of an airport to its community goes beyond the direct revenue it generates, using the example of a recent visit to the Comfort Inn in Goderich.

“And I asked to speak to their financial manager. She had just flown in from British Columbia that morning and we have other businesses that have chosen to locate in Huron County that use that airport to come in and consult with their businesses within Huron,” said McNeil.

McNeil points out while those people are in Huron County, they spend money in the County.

And the warden added the value of a municipal airport goes beyond the direct income generated by it, pointing to the 23 trips made by Ornge ambulance last year.

“If the Goderich Airport is managed going forward with the future-looking concept of how do we attract more business, the report would indicate there are lots of opportunities to do so. It’s just a matter of pursuing those opportunities,” said McNeil.
