27 new COVID-19 cases in London, Middlesex

Just a few days after the London-area recorded only two new cases of COVID-19, another 27 new cases were added to the total on Friday.

The 27 new cases reported by the Middlesex London Health on Friday mark the second highest daily total in October. On October 1, 33 new cases were reported. The total number of cases in London and Middlesex County since the start of the pandemic has reached 14,370. No deaths were reported Friday.

The number of resolved cases eclipsed a milestone figure on Friday. There have now been 14,002 cases considered “resolved” by the health unit. The area now has 123 active cases.

The only school outbreak in London or Middlesex County remains ongoing. The health unit says there are six confirmed cases at Our Lady of the Pillar Academy in Strathroy.

The London Health Sciences Centre says it is treating six patients with COVID-19. Five or fewer of those patients are listed in intensive care and five or fewer are in the care of Children’s Hospital. There are currently five or fewer hospital employees who have tested positive for the virus.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported 19 new cases Friday, increasing its total case count since the start of the pandemic to 4,569. The death toll was unchanged at 90 with no additional deaths recorded over the past 24 hours. The number of resolved cases rose to 4,397. There are now 82 active cases in the two counties.

Ontario reported reported 492 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, the 12th straight day the figure was below 500.
There are 261 people with COVID in Ontario hospitals, 149 of whom are in intensive care.
