Are you a Canadian citizen and haven’t registered to vote yet?
Elections Canada says if you want to make your voice heard in the federal election, no problem.
You can register to vote, then cast a ballot when you go into your local polling place on Monday. If you’re not sure where you’re supposed to go, visit the official Elections Canada website and enter your postal code.
If you’re not registered, you can save time by going to the website, and following the prompts to print out a pre-registration certificate, then bring it to the polling place on Monday.
To register, be ready to provide proof of identity and proof of address. A list of IDs acceptable for use can be found on the site.
With Ontario in the fourth wave of COVID-19, Elections Canada said all possible precautions will be taken to ensure people can vote safely, and poll workers are protected. Voters are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering, and masks will be offered for those if they forget one. However, those with medical exemptions should still be allowed to cast a ballot.
“I want to thank Canadians in advance for showing care and respect for their fellow citizens by abiding by the recommended health and safety protocols in place at the polls when they go to register and vote,” said Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault. “I congratulate them for their participation in Canadian democracy in these difficult times and for ensuring that all participants feel safe and confident taking part in the election.”
Polls on Monday will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
