Baby flown to London hospital, woman charged with assault: Police

Hanover police have charged a 23-year-old North Bruce Peninsula woman after a four-month-old baby was treated for injuries in Hanover hospital’s emergency department before being flown to London for more treatment.

Hanover police Chief Chris Knoll said in a statement that police were called early in the morning on Oct. 30 about the injured baby.

The baby was flown to a London hospital in serious but stable condition, police said. On Saturday, the baby was released from hospital into the custody of Bruce-Grey Child and Family Services and was expected to make a full recovery from the injuries, police said.

Police charged a 23-year-old woman from North Bruce Peninsula with assault causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessities of life. Officers searched an area motel room related to the investigation, police said.

The accused was released on Oct. 31 with conditions and must appear in Walkerton court in early December. Hanover police ask anyone with information helpful to this investigation to contact them at 519-364-2411.

Delivery driver, 60, dies after being struck by passing vehicle

A delivery driver who was struck by a passing vehicle while returning to his work vehicle has died, Woodstock police say.

It was shortly before 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 when police say officers were called to a collision at the intersection of Springbank Avenue North and Sloane Street. That’s located in a residential neighbourhood.

Police say the 60-year-old delivery driver was returning to his vehicle when he was struck. He died in London hospital, police said. The deceased driver’s name was not made public by Woodstock police.

The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t hurt, police said, noting the investigation was ongoing as of Sunday. They were “urging anyone with information related to this tragic event to come forward. Your assistance is crucial in helping us understand the circumstances surrounding this collision.”
