County distributes Heritage Funding to ten successful applicants

Huron County’s Cultural Services Director announced the ten recipients of funding from the Huron Heritage Fund at this week’s county council meeting.

Beth Rumple says the Heritage Fund was started fifteen years ago.

“The Huron Heritage Fund exists to help assist and encourage the preservation of Heritage Assets and activities that are of importance in the county of Huron. Things like land marks, historic buildings, objects of historical significance, as well as publications or media,” Rumble exlained.

Rumble says eligible projects have to be happening in Huron County and it is a cost-sharing program, so they would grant fifty per cent of the cost of the project up to a total of $5,000.

Over the last few years, Rumble says they’ve seen a lot of diversity in the applications they’ve received.

“Which is exciting to see that in addition to facility upgrades that we’re seeing a podcast or a television series and different types of projects. It’s exciting to see that we can support different things throughout the county as people expand how they think about heritage,” added Rumble.

Rumble says they have $25,000 to distribute every year. The first intake is in May and the second is in November. But she says if the $25,000 is fully allocated in May, then they don’t have the November intake, and this year they did distribute all of the funding in May.
