Cinco de Mayo Fest coming to downtown London

This weekend, the Covent Garden Market will hold its very first Cinco de Mayo Fest on the Rotary Square.

With warmer temperatures expected on Saturday and Sunday, people of all ages can enjoy the outdoor celebration. Cinco de Mayo Fest will have bouncy castles and Dotsy face painting for the kids, along with henna body art, and live music from local artists.

“We’re very excited to be kicking off our festival season and we hope friends and family can make it out this weekend,” said Sam Regier, events coordinator for the Covent Garden Market.

A selection of Mexican, Latin, and Brazilian foods will be available from local food vendors, including La Burreria, La Parrillada, Supper Tasty, and Tropikups.

The fifth of May marks the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. While it’s a fairly minor holiday in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is commemorated in places across Canada and the United States each year as a celebration of Mexican culture.

Cinco de Mayo Fest is on Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., with entertainment from Daubian Oliveira, Kristen Renée, and Freddy Almarza & Luz María Lopera throughout the evening.

On Sunday, the festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with performances by Gianny Correa & Ana De Mexicano, Collective Evolution, mariachi band Antonia Alas, and David Rayo & Peter Tindall to close out the weekend.

Admission to Cinco de Mayo Fest is free.
